A Gresham motorcyclist died Wednesday evening after being hit by an SUV on Highway 101 near Pistol River.

Danny Michael Nudo, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet.

According to OSP Sgt. Scott Punch, at 5:38 p.m. a Ford Excursion

driven by Sierra Nicole Rigel, 17, of Brookings, was southbound on

Highway 101 near milepost 341 when it crossed the centerline and

collided with a northbound Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Nudo.

After impact, the Ford continued off the highway and hit a tree.

Rigel was transported by ambulance to Curry General Hospital for a precautionary medical examination and later released. She was using safety restraints and her vehicle's airbags deployed, according to Punch.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Gold Beach office are continuing the investigation.

The crash happened at the south end of a highway work zone.

OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Curry County Sheriff's Office, Cal-Or Life Flight, Pistol River Fire Department and Tidewater Contractors traffic flaggers.
