A joint appearance by both South Coast candidates for the Oregon Senate will be the featured program of Thursdays monthly Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce forum.

The no-host luncheon starts at noon Thursday at the Best Western Brookings Inn conference center.

Both Ken Messerle, a Republican from Coos Bay, and Roger McCorkle, a Democrat from Florence, plan to speak at the chamber forum. Senate District 24 stretches from Brookings to Florence.

Messerle, retired from his familys ranching and timber operations, currently represents the southern half of the district in the Oregon House of Representatives. McCorkle, a retired teacher, is the former mayor of Florence and long active in Florence and Lane County politics.

In addition to the joint appearance by the Senate candidates this month, the chamber has invited both House of Representatives candidates for the area to the Oct. 12 forum.

That event will feature Wayne Krieger, a Republican from Gold Beach, and Barbara Dodrill, a Democrat from Bandon. They are competing for the seat being vacated by Messerle, which covers all of Curry County and southern Coos County.
