MERCHANTS HAPPY WITH HOLIDAY SALES

Christmas has come and gone and most Brookings merchants reported good sales throughout the holiday season.

The after Christmas sales were wonderful; better than we expected, said Emporium manager Sheila Hagbom.

She said the most popular gift item was polar fleece followed by suede cloth and micro fiber items.

Hagbom said that most of the items that were brought back to the store were exchanged for different colors or larger sizes.

Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts reported being busier than last year.

The most popular items were Christmas elves, Christmas home decor, and fragrances, said Railene Wagaman, store manager.

The most popular items at the Banana Belt Trading Company included T-shirts, aromatherapy products, toys, carved woods and Oregon Food Gift baskets, said owner Jerry Kelley.

Kelley said he made more Oregon Food Gift baskets this year than in the last four or five years.

Of the sales Kelly said It was a much smoother flow this year. It was an even pattern of fairly consistent sales.

Beachfront Gifts Manager Linda Rost said sales were fantastic. We had a great weekend.

She said sales of clothing, water fountains, crystal, hand-painted ornaments and lighthouses were particularly good.

It gets better every year, she said.
