Brookings resident George Gilbert Delrio, 22, was in jail Tuesday after allegedly robbing and assaulting two teenagers, the Brookings Police Department said.
Two boys, 14 and 15, were walking near the Abbey Mall on Redwood Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday when they were allegedly assaulted by Delrio and another suspect, police said.
The boys told police they were slapped and kicked and their jackets and wallets were stolen. The backpack of the 14-year-old boy was taken.
The 15 year old was choked and suffered scratches on his throat, police said.
The boys did not know the suspects, police said.
The robbery was reported Saturday morning by the father of the 14 year old. Police investigated and Delrio was arrested Saturday afternoon at his home.
The second suspect is an 18-year-old Crescent City resident. Brookings Police Sgt. Wayne Sheffel said police are currently working with the California Youth Authority to arrest the suspect.
Sheffel said the suspects had been drinking and thought the boys were dissing them. The suspects work together at a Brookings moving company, he said.
Police recovered most of the stolen items. The 15-year-old boys wallet has not been recovered because the Crescent City suspect has it, police said.
Delrio was charged with two counts of third-degree robbery, two counts of menacing and one count of third-degree assault, Curry County Court Clerk Elvira Stinnet said Tuesday.
Delrio appeared in court Tuesday morning for a pre-trial hearing.
