WALKING TO BATTLE CANCER

The final lap of the fourth annual Relay for Life is scheduled for noon today (July 21) at Elmer Bankus Field at Brookings-Harbor High School.

The total amount of money raised and the top team for 2001 will be announced during a closing ceremony following the final lap, organizers say.

The cancer fundraiser began Friday night. Highlighting the evening was a luminary ceremony. Luminaries were placed around the track by Boy Scouts from Troop 32 Friday afternoon and lighted for the evening. During the ceremony, the stadium lights were turned off.

The survivors lap was the first lap of the evening. Following the lap, team members took turns walking around the track all night, participated in contests and games, and were entertained with music.

Contests continue this morning including cake walks, a TP toss, musical chairs and a relay egg toss.

Singers from Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Pam Carrier, Rapp Brush and the Relay for Life house band plan to continue to entertain this morning.

People from the community may come to the football field to bid on merchandise offered a silent auction. Auction results are to be announced at 11:30 a.m.

Donations continue to be accepted for the American Cancer Society this morning. Donations may be made at any of the team campsites.
