Construction at Brookings-Harbor schools is only three weeks behind a best-case scenario, said Project Manager Jim Van Lente at Wednesday's School Bond Citizen's Review and Oversight Committee meeting.

andquot; There's adequate time to be substantially complete by Spring 2003,andquot; said Van Lente.

Precast panels forming the walls of the new building at Kalmiopsis Elementary School are already standing, and construction crews began placing panels for a building at the high school on Monday, said Van Lente.

Van Lente said he also expected soil contaminated with hydrocarbons will soon be trucked from the construction sites to the Medford dump.

Van Lente also presented his comparison of cost between the final building designs and amount of the November 2000 school bond passed by voters.

The designs total 7,856 square feet smaller than the bond amount was calculated for, said Van Lente, resulting in a savings of $607,500 to just over $1 million.
