GOLD BEACH - About 120 people buzzed around more than 30 vendors' booths Saturday afternoon at the Port of Gold Beach during the third annual Bash on the Bay.

Saturday was Dana Jean Maginn's last day in Gold Beach. For the third time the Portland native spent a week there with her husband.

When she saw the bash going on, she rounded up the rest of her vacation companions - 10 in all - and brought them to the port.

andquot;I think it's really a wonderful thing,andquot; Maginn said, admiring some of Kris Kain's jewelry. andquot;It's just all great, the handmade, beautiful things.andquot;

Kain, who sold jewelry alongside her husband Mike's burl wood furniture, said Saturday that sales so far had been good.

New to the craft fair circuit, Kain said she and Mike will likely return to the bash next year, though she would like to see it advertised more.

Rory Ernes and his pine knot wood sculptures were also first-timers to the Gold Beach craft fair.

By Saturday afternoon, Ernes said he had not sold much.

andquot;A lot of times, the first day on a two-day fair, people are just looking and looking,andquot; Ernes said.

Melva Paradzinski came from Crescent City to sell hand-painted terra cotta pots and bird baths for the second year.

She said she returned because of the friendly people.

andquot;We made friends with different vendors,andquot; Paradzinski said.

She said on Saturday that business was not bad. andquot;People are just enjoying walking around in the sunlight.andquot;

Judd VanHorbek brought his irises and fused glass wind chimes to the bash all the way from Springfield.

VanHorbek said he drives three hours to Portland's farmers' market on a regular basis, so he is used to traveling for shows.

andquot;That's the nature of the game,andquot; VanHorbek said.

He added that, although sales slowed in the afternoon, Saturday morning was quite busy.

andquot;I like doing the festivals,andquot; VanHorbek said. andquot;Shows like this will usually be good, if the weather is good.andquot;
