SPOTLIGHT: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

The andquot;Beauty and the Beastandquot; spaghetti dinner Saturday met and surpassed the fundraising goal to raise enough money to purchase a spotlight.

Actually, two were needed for the upcoming performance of the Disney production, according to Director Dori Blodgett.

andquot; Our goal was to buy a spotlight and we made more than $500, enough to buy both spotlights, andquot; Blodgett said.

The approximately 140 guests at the Chetco Grange Community Center were treated not only to spaghetti, meatballs, salad, and homemade desserts, but they also had a chance to hear some of the songs from the upcoming production.

A majority of the 72-member cast was on hand to serve spaghetti and entertain the guests with a small preview of the musical scheduled for performances on Nov. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23.

Cast members, family, and friends are involved in preparing the theater where andquot;Beauty and the Beastandquot; will be performed. Blodgett said the current name for the new theater, which is housed in the former Performing Arts Center in the Brookings Harbor Shopping Center, is The Harbor Performing Arts Center.

Blodgett recently signed a two-year lease on the building, which will be used for regular performances and special events. It will be available for individual and community activities, with a major production planned for every other month.

andquot; We have a wedding scheduled and the (Curry County) Sheriff's Posse has an event planned, and our plans currently include a murder mystery dinner show, a children's production, a teen show, and a melodrama, andquot; Blodgett said.

She indicated that there will be continuing fundraising efforts, and all donations will be accepted.
