The new indoor Spring Farmers Market will open its doors this April.
Sponsored by Chetco Grange 765, and located inside the Chetco Grange Community Center at the corner of Highway 101 and Zimmerman Way in Harbor, this newest farmers market will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., every other Wednesday, beginning April 7.
According to Market Manager Kathleen Dickson, customers will be able to shop at the spring market, for vegetable and flower seedlings and other perennial potted plants, early spring produce, flower bouquets, local free-range eggs, locally harvested mushrooms, and locally made food products such as preserves, lavender-infused items, and dried fruit.
"The farmers and growers in our area are really excited about the prospect of starting the 2010 market season earlier in the spring," Dickson said, "and our local food artisans will also get the opportunity to show off their excellent products. Plus, the community will benefit by continuing to have access to locally grown and created food products."
Dickson also thanked the Chetco Grange membership for their continued support of local farmers, growers, and food artisans. "By sponsoring this newest farmers market, the grange is saying to the community, 'we believe in local agriculture and are willing to get behind any effort to make local foods available to all.' "Having the grange as our sponsor means a lot to those of us working to promote the local foodship concept," Dickson explained.
