Brookings contractor Dave Kitchen and city councilman Dave Gordon have issued an invitation to all builders and vendors of building materials and supplies to join in the formation of a Curry County Home Builders Association.
The association will be affiliated with the national and state Home Builders Association and, Kitchen explained, it will benefit not only those in the building trades, but also the community at large.
According to Kitchen and Gordon, some of the membership benefits for contractors include substantial discounts for purchase of workers' compensation and liability insurance, discounts from lenders, car fleet sales, and some vendors who will offer larger discounts to members.
Kitchen mentioned another important benefit will be an ongoing training resource for the betterment of the trade, including information about Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, state safety standards, building codes, plus apprentice carpenter training.
A number of contractors and vendors have already signed on to the program, Kitchen said, including Gold Beach Lumber, Kerr's Ace Hardware, Platt Electric, Tim Patterson's Harbor Truss Systems, and Coos Curry Electric Co-op.
