Funds raised from the event will help with the on-going marketing effort, aimed at identifying the region of Curry and Del Norte counties with a single common name as familiar as andquot;Wine Country.andquot;
A group of chamber of commerce, city, county, port and federal agency officials gathered to brainstorm the brand for Curry and Del Norte counties five years ago. The marketing effort has been managed by a board of 10 appointed by the five chambers of commerce in the two counties.
In full, the brand is: andquot;America's Wild Rivers Coast, 101 miles of nature's best.andquot; The unique selling points behind the brand were drafted as andquot;where wild rivers flow through towering forests to quiet waterfront towns with magnificent ocean vistas ? and great weather too!andquot;
Over the past five years, the effort has resulted in spreading use of the name, and even a state marketing award from the Governor's Council on Tourism.
