The Bruin volleyball team swept the Illinois Valley Cougars and the Bandon Tigers in consecutive nights to improve to 4-1 on the year.

"They're still improving each game with their passing and their movement as a team," Coach Lori Cooper said. "Overall, the girls did a good job."

On Tuesday evening, the Bruins swept the Cougars in three games with scores of 25-18, 25-6 and 25-13.

Stephanie Kerr led the Bruins with 18 kills, followed by Dani Olson with nine.

Molly Vance had 15 assists to go along with three kills.

Monday night, the Bruins swept the Tigers in three (25-16, 27-25 and 25-18).

After controlling the majority of the first game, game two was a much closer battle, with 11 ties and seven lead changes throughout the game.

With the score knotted at 25-25, a kill by Sarah Pate gave the Bruins a one point advantage and the ball.

Vance then stepped up for the serve, sent the ball over the net and the Tigers were unable to return it, giving the Bruins the close 27-25 win.

Vanita Carrillo helped the Bruins get off to a strong start in game three, serving seven straight points with an ace for the early 7-0 lead.

The Bruins continually built their lead throughout the game and Kerr completed the sweep with a perfectly placed tip for the 25-18 victory in the final game.

Kerr led the Bruins with 19 kills along with three saves, followed by Olson with six kills and a team-high five blocks, while Vance had 25 assists.

The JV Bruins improved to 5-0 on the year as they beat the Cougars in two games (25-7 and 25-17) and the Tigers in three (19-25, 25-14 and 16-14).
