The Brookings-Harbor High School softball team defeated the Lancers of South Umpqua 10-5 on Tuesday, with Courtney Kay hitting a 2-run home run in the fourth inning, and Mariahn Seavello hitting a 3-run homer in the fifth to claim the team’s first Far West League victory.
Seavello’s big hit was the icing on the cake for a game which found her batting 1.000 (4-for-4) with 4 RBIs.
Hanna Goergen went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI. Hanna also pitched the entire game, with eight strikeouts while only giving up five hits.
Kaleen Bishop went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, Megan Strain went 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
The Bruins were given their first run of the inning as the Lady Lancer pitcher walked a batter with the bases loaded, but claimed two of their own in the third inning.
Kay’s home run in the fourth gave the Bruins 2 of their 4 fourth-inning runs, while Hannah Baron’s double scored Amanda Hudson and Seavello’s double scored Baron.
The Lady Bruins scored their last three runs in the fifth inning on Seavello’s homer to cap the game and win.
“The girls played good solid defense,” Head Coach Steve Bonde said. “I am very happy with their level of their commitment.”
The Lady Bruins will host Douglas on Friday for doubleheader action. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
