“No bats again,” Head Coach Steve Bonde said following doubleheader loses to the Trojans of Douglas. “Weak all the way around. Defense wasn’t good, pitching wasn’t good, nothing was good.”
The Bruins were scoreless in the first game as the Trojans had 10 runs by the end of the fourth inning. They scored one to keep their hopes of winning alive, but were unable to add to the total in the 1-10 loss.
The Bruins struck out nine times in the first game, and the Bruin pitching staff – split between Courtney Kay and Jessica Yock – was only able to record one strikeout total.
The second game didn’t fare any better Hannah Goergen, Yock and Kay triple-teamed the Trojans and were shelled for 15 runs in four innings.
The Lady Bruins were able to score two runs – one in the third and one in the fifth – but it proved to be too little, too late as they lost 2-15.
The JV squad, hosting North Bend at home, had a near-mirror image result in their doubleheader.
The first game was a 25-3 victory by the Bruins, while the second game was a 9-8 squeaker, according to freshman Alyssa Gallian.
“We were a little worried in the last game,” she said. “The refs didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing, but it worked out.”
The Bruins have a week-long home stand next week, beginning with a game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, at home against North Bend.
