The Brookings-Harbor High School track team hosted its last meet before the Far West League district track meet arrives for a two-day visit on Friday, May 13.

The boys team devoured their closest competition with a team score of 116. The next closest score was Del Norte High School with 50, followed by Illinois Valley, 37, and Gold Beach, 26.
The girls team, missing their all-star long distance runner Ally Manley, were off the first place mark by only seven points with a second-place score of 78. Del Norte took first with 85, while Illinois Valley, 51, and Gold Beach, 23, filled out the bottom two slots.The Bruins had a number of first place finishes including:
Heidi Moore, 100-meter dash, 13.12; Jordyn Keys, 800-meter run, 2:41.64; Mikaela Lea, 3,000-meter run, 15:15.10; Catherine Bones-Axel, 100-meter hurdles, 17.49 and long jump, 14-01 1/2; Kelsa Northrup, high jump, 4-08; Dylan Roberts, 200-meter dash, 24.16; Javin Fleshman, 3,000-meter run, 11:15.03; Geoff Gowman, 110-meter hurdles; 16.71; Bill Emme, 300-meter hurdles, 47.89 and long jump, 17-07; Scott McDougall, high jump, 6-00; Cody Stumpenhaus, shot put, 48-06 1/2; Derick Christie, discus, 121-03; and Chandler Gotfried, javelin, 157-06.
The girls and boys 4x100-meter relay teams took first in their races with times of 52:46 and 46.62 respectively.
The boys 4x400-meter relay race had a photo finish between the Bruins and their cross-border rivals the Del Norte Warriors. The Warriors won the race but not before senior anchor-leg runner Geoff Gowman made it interesting by closing a gap of over 50 meters to almost edge out Del Norte’s anchor.
The Bruins will host the district track meet on Friday and Saturday, May 13 and 14 at the Elmer Bankus field. Events are scheduled to begin at noon.
