Rain doesn't dampen enthusiasm at Funky Foot Race

Organizers of the first Brookings Harbor Funky Foot Race on Saturday expected perhaps a dozen or so people to show up for the event.
They got 50 – even with the rain.
“It was a lot more than we hoped for,” said Tawndy Davidson, who, with the help of fellow coordinator Jean Anhorn, organized the event at the Port of Brookings Harbor.
In addition to 5K and 10K races, the event featured a Kids Boardwalk Dash, health fair, yoga stretch, and a TumPai Tai Chi demonstration.

“It seemed the weather was going to cooperate with just light showers, but it soon took a turn for the worse during the Kids Boardwalk Dash. It didn’t stop the participants from sloshing around in the rain and having fun,” Davidson said.
The free event was a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps U.S. service men and women wounded in combat by paying for prostheses and related services. Participants paid $35 per person or $100 per team to be in the 5K and 10K races. Kid’s Boardwalk Dash competitors paid a $20 entry fee.
