The Brookings-Harbor High School Lady Bruin soccer team began their 2011 Far West League season with a 7-0 drubbing of the Douglas Lady Trojans on Thursday. Freshman Addi Fitzgerald scored three for the hat trick, while Louie Deraita just missed the hat honors, scoring two. Brianna Juarez added a goal on a 40-yard shot that caught the upper right corner of the net for a score.
Jade Heredia added the seventh and final goal. Jessica Yock held the net for the Lady Bruins and according to Head Coach Fred Juarez, had an amazing save. “Yock was covering the near post and blocked a hard shot to the opposite side of the box,” he said. “The rebound came down at the feet of a Trojan player who shot hard to the opposite corner. Jessica made a flying dive, and took the shot in the gut for a second block.” With the victory the Bruins take their piece of a three-way tie for first in the Far West League and will face one of the teams they are knotted up with, North Bend High School, on Tuesday. The Lady Bruins’ will take on the Lady Bulldogs in a game set to begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday on the soccer field between the high school and the football field.
