The decisive moment came late for the Bruins' wrestling team Wednesday night, but the result was still a 42-38 victory over the visiting Rogue River Chieftains.
"It was a great comeback," said Head Coach Dave Freeman. "We spotted them 12 points, but the kids really came through."
The Bruins made up the 12 points on a string of late wins, including an "essential" victory by pin from Ray Mazyck.
"I told him to win like you win, and he came through with just a minute to spare," Freeman said.
For the JV, Ron Hunt and Jon Fowler registered wins, both pins.
In the Varsity column, Ray Mazyck, Nicky Yuan, Dustin Paradis, Tim Drafahl, Evan Peterson and Favian Fernandez also won matches by pin.
Freeman said he was impressed by many of the Bruins' matches Wednesday, including Yuan's.
"He's still learning, but he out wrestled his opponent and pinned him," he said.
In an exhibition match, Jesse Ashley won by pin in the first round.
Of the team's victory, Freeman said he was happy with the effort and the outcome.
"They did a good job," he said. "It's hard too, when you don't have kids in certain weight classes. We're still accepting applications."
The Bruins are off Friday for a Saturday meet in Cottage Grove at 5:30 p.m.
