The Brookings-Harbor High School Lady Bruins basketball team tallied another victory as they rode senior Kambri Coleman’s 26 points to a 56-30 victory over the Lancers of South Umpqua.
Coleman had four 3-pointers on the night and had put up 19 points in the first half alone.
The Bruins opened up the first quarter with a slow 12 points, but were able to limit the Lady Lancers to 6 with their pressure defense.
In the second quarter, the flood gates opened and the Lady Bruins scored 17, while allowing 10 of South Umpqua’s shots to pass through the net.
No changes made by the Lancer’s coaching staff seemed to have effect as the Bruins scored 20 in the third quarter to the Lancers’ 9.
The final quarter saw a slowing in the Bruins’ production as they scored just 7 points, but they limited the Lancers to only 5 points to make it a perfect sweep of all four quarters.
The Lady Bruins will host undefeated league rivals, the Sutherlin Bulldogs at 6 p.m. on Friday at the CFCU Pavilion on the BHHS campus.
A last second 3-point attempt by Dexter Vaughn failed to fall in the final seconds of overtime, as the Brookings-Harbor High School boys basketball team lost to the South Umpqua Lancers, 70-73.
The Bruins scored 14 in the first quarter with senior captain Nick Corpening scoring 12 of the teams’ total points.
Unfortunately for the Bruins Corpening would be held scoreless in the second quarter and the Bruins were unable to capitalize on a measly 11 points scored by the Lancers.
The Bruins scored 16 in the third quarter, but were unable to reel the Lancers in until a 20-point fourth quarter offensive effort, and an impressive defensive stand that limited the Lancers to 11 tied the game up at 60 a piece to send the game into overtime.
The final minute of overtime found the Bruins down by two and forced to foul to try and finish the Lancers off, but a made free throw by the Lancers opened the game to three and the last second 3-pointer by Vaughn failed to find the net, dropping the Bruins to 1-2 on the season in league play.
The Bruins host the Bulldogs of Sutherlin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the CFCU Pavilion on the BHHS campus.
