The Brookings-Harbor High School JV football team took to the field Friday night with one thing on their mind: domination.

Dominate they did, as they shut out the Bandon Tigers 36-0.

The Bruins kicked off to start the game and the defense quickly forced the Tigers to go four and out.

Starting quarterback Izak Ehlers quickly made a connection with wide receiver Trent Bevan for a 55-yard touchdown. Easton Scaggs pounded the ball in from the five-yard line for a two point conversion, putting the Bruins up 8-0.

With just second remaining in the first quarter, Levi Williams broke out a 78-yard run that was stopped just short of a touchdown by a diving tackle made by a Tiger defender.

Ehlers scored on the next play with a quarterback keeper, and Justin Murray ran in a two point conversion to put the Bruins up 16-0.

The Bruin defense refused to let the offense hog the limelight, causing fumble after fumble, and disrupting every play the Tigers tried to run.

The third quarter started with a 60-yard touchdown run by Murray and a 2-point conversion by Bevan to put the Bruins up 24-0. Bevan remained in the spotlight as he and Ehlers connected again for a 50-yard touchdown pass which put the Bruins up 30-0.

“It felt really good,” Ehlers said of his two touchdown passes. “Especially winning 36-0, we’ve gotten better in this past week.”

The two-point conversion was stopped by the Tigers, but the setback didn’t stop the Bruins from scoring on more time in the fourth quarter as Justin Murray ran the ball in from two yards out.

Murray’s run was set up by a pair of runs from Ethan Williams to the outside that fooled the Tigers into cheating outside and Murray took the ball right up the middle for the touchdown. After a second failed point after conversion the clock ran out on a 36-0 victory for the Bruins.

“I’m really proud of the kids,” Head JV Coach Ted Burdett said. “They worked really hard. A lot of them are playing football for the first time and it is starting to click.

“It’s going to build into what I hope will be a dynasty for the varsity program.”

Bruin varsity football plays at Bandon today (Sept. 10) at 2 p.m.
