The Brookings-Harbor High School boys soccer team scored two goals on its way to a physical victory over the visiting North Bend Bulldogs on Thursday.

“It was a pretty physical game,” senior Derek Hodge said. “But it always is against North Bend.”

Hodge scored the first Bruin goal on a cross pass from freshman Alex Anaya.

Junior David Daniels scored the Bruins second goal in the second half of play on a solo breakaway.

“It feels really good to be able to contribute to the team,” Daniels said. “Especially in a game that is as important as this.”

“I was expecting a little bit better of a score,” BHHS girls’ head coach Fernando Villa said. “We had our chances but their goalie was good.”

The girls scored early in the first half on an excellent shot by junior Crystal Rodriguez.

“It felt great,” Rodriguez said. “I’m just happy I made a goal. We really wanted to win this game so it was a little disappointing when they scored, but I think we played better.”

The Bulldogs’ lone goal was a shot that caught the wind and squeaked by goalie Hannah Goergen’s outstretched hand.

“I’m happy for the girls,” Villa said. “I really wanted a win to set the tone right now, but I’m happy.”

Both the boys and girls play on Tuesday at Douglas. The girls are scheduled for 3 p.m., the boys to follow at 5 p.m.
