“The kids picked up where they left off with Cascade Christian,” BHHS football Head Coach Joe Morin said. Morin was referring the intensity level with which the Bruin football team took to the field Saturday in their 64-15 drubbing of the Bandon Tigers.
While the majority of the attention goes to the quarterback, his receivers and the running backs, Morin was quick to point out those quiet but necessary members of the team, the offensive line. Morin’s praise extended to a player he referred to as an “unsung hero,” Tim Drafahl. “He played from whistle to whistle on the left side,” Morin said. “A lot of the scores we had wouldn’t have happened without him.” The Bruins’ running backs, Tyler Lueckfeld, Dubby McKinney, and Chandler Dodd combined for five touchdowns and 440 yards. Lueckfeld had 153 yards which included a 52 yard touchdown. McKinney ran for 221 yards, including 5 yard, 31 yard and 52 yard touchdowns. McKinney also ran back an interception for a touchdown. Dodd ran for 66 yards including a 32 yard touchdown. The two remaining touchdowns were the product of senior quarterback Jr. Helme. Helme ran a two-yard quarterback sneak for one and connected with tight end Alex Pate for a 44-yard touchdown reception. The passing touchdown marks the first in the past two seasons. “Everybody stood out,” Morin said. “We’re getting more consistent.” According to Morin, consistency is vital considering the team will be facing one of their toughest challenges of the season on Friday as they face the Del Norte Warriors. “We’re confident, but we know that Del Norte is a much improved team from last year,” Morin said. “This will be one of the toughest games of the season.” The Bruins head south to Crescent City on Friday to take on the Warriors of Del Norte High School. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
