The Brookings-Harbor High School softball team took no prisoners in Friday night’s doubleheader against North Bend.

They won the first game 2-1, with starting pitcher Hannah Goergen holding off a seventh-inning rally by the Bulldogs to preserve the win.

Goergen also got necessary support from her defense when shortstop Hannah Baron knocked down a hard-hit ball to prevent a second run from scoring in the top of the seventh.

The second game was a blowout, 10-2, with the Lady Bruins scoring runs in all but three innings and allowing just two runs by the Lady ’Dogs on a home run in the first and a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Courtney Kay gave up the homer but was solid for the next four innings before being relieved by freshman Emily Johnson.

Both pitchers got much needed defensive help as Bruin after Bruin made amazing defensive plays.

“I felt like it was a great win for us,” third baseman Megan Strain said. “It felt good to win.”

The Bruins took time between games to honor local law enforcement with a special flag ceremony and a tri-tip dinner cooked by Strain’s family and team supporters.

The Bruins advance to 8-4 and third place in Far West League play (12-8 overall) and will play their final home game of the season at 4 p.m. on Tuesday against Siuslaw before travelling to Sutherlin on Friday for a doubleheader.
