Whitney Floyd watches the ball as it goes over the outstretched hands of two Bulldog defenders for one of three kills in the game. The Pilot/Jef Hatch The Brookings-Harbor High School volleyball team lost their second straight Far West League match in three straight games: 11-25, 11-25, 15-25.
The Lady Bruins hosted the North Bend Lady Bulldogs who are tied for first in the Far West League and were outmatched at every turn.
“Our energy wasn’t there,” Senior captain Whitney Floyd said. “We weren’t talking on the court. It was very frustrating.”
Head Coach Lori Cooper agreed with Floyd.
“We need everyone giving 100 percent,” she said. “It’s not that they all don’t at some time, it just needs to be consistent.”
According to Floyd the only way to fix the problem is to work harder in practice. “We need to talk, and everyone has to start working hard in practice so that they can give their all in games,” she said.
Floyd led the team in kills with three, but that was far off her typical 8-10 kills per game average.
Lakota Hatcher and Christy Reynolds each had two kills while Jordyn Keys, Cayleen Wiley and Courtney Kay each had one.
Kay, a freshman, also had her first ace.
“Kay really has some potential,” Cooper said. “I really want her to develop into a player, and she is getting there.”
The JV team lost as well, 14-25, 17-25.
The Bruins are slated to be at home on Thursday, hosting the Lady Vikings of Siuslaw in the CFCU Pavilion at 5 p.m. for the JV, and 6 p.m. for the varsity. The Vikings are tied for first in the FWL with the Lady Bulldogs.
