The Brookings-Harbor High School volleyball team was unable to pull out of its six-game league losing streak in a 0-3 (14-25, 18-25, 14-25) loss to the Far West League’s second-place Douglas Trojans.

The night was marked with a seeming inability to communicate on the part of the Bruins, as ball after playable ball fell, untouched, between Bruin players.

“We need to be more aggressive and talk more,” sophomore Cayleen Wiley said. “We weren’t focused and got down on each other, instead of cheering each other on.”

Wiley had seven digs on the night as the Bruins libero.

The Bruins were down 6-20 in the first game before attempting to stage a too little, too late comeback and finishing out the game at 14-25.

The Lady Bruins came out of the huddle after game one and kept it close on strong plays at the net by Jordan Keys and Whitney Floyd before losing 18-25.

Floyd would end the night with two blocks, four kills and five digs.

In game three the Trojans dominated the floor from beginning to end and didn’t allow the Bruins any wiggle room on their errors.

“Our passing was not good at all,” Lakota Hatcher said. “And we really need to work on covering tips. Most teams don’t score against us on tips but they seemed to put it where we weren’t.”

Hatcher had three kills, two blocks and five assists for the match. Christy Reynolds added three kills while Megan Strain served up four assists and six digs.

The Bruins travel to North Bend today (Oct. 12) for a game that is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
