An early 3-point basket by Mallory McDonald to take the lead promised a night of exciting basketball for the Lady Bruins, and although they lost 34-45 they kept the game close against the undefeated Lady Bulldogs of Sutherlin on Tuesday night.
Mallory McDonald led the Bruins in scoring with 20 points, followed by three Bruins with 4 points each, Brianna Juarez, Lakota Hatcher and Courtney Kay. Jordyn Keys had 2 to round out the Bruins’ scoring.
The Bruins trailed by one at the end of the first quarter and only four at the half but a breakaway third quarter by the Bulldogs was the keystone in the Bruins’ loss.
Boys drop to fourth place with
55-62 loss to Bulldogs
The Brookings-Harbor High School boys basketball team came out of the locker room cold to begin Tuesday night’s game against the Bulldogs of Sutherlin and were down by seven at the half after trailing by as much as 11 in the game, but surged back in the third quarter to draw within one to head into the fourth.
The effort proved too little, too late as foul trouble for BHHS big men Alex Pate and Chandler Gotfried pulled them out of the 55-62 loss early.
The boys JV won 64-49, led by Dexter Vaughn, 15 points, and Cade Freels, 14.
Boys and girls basketball teams travel to Douglas on Friday for their final games of the regular season.
