All four Bruin big men scored in double figures as the Brookings-Harbor High School boys' basketball team cruised to a 80-54 win over the Gold Beach Panthers Tuesday night.

The Bruins jumped out to a 25-10 lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 20 points by the half.

In the third quarter, the Bruins used a 24-12 advantage to take a 67-35 lead into the final period.

The Bruin bigs made their presence felt on both ends of the floor, swatting away numerous Panther shots on the defensive end.

On offense, the guards did a great job feeding the ball to the posts and letting them work around the basket.

Fred Corpening led all Bruins with 18 points while Kenton Bansemer had 13, A.J. Weber added 11 and Charles Chambers chipped in 10 points.

Michael Wood and Nick Taresh also added nine points apiece.

In the JV game, the Bruins beat the Panthers 69-33 and were led by Cody Cozad, who had another dominating performance with 23 points and 20 rebounds. Joey LaThorpe also added 15 points for the Bruins.

On Saturday, the Bruins used a 32-14 first-half advantage to beat the Bandon Tigers 58-41.

"It was nice to have an opportunity to get a lot of different kids in the lineup," Coach Bryan Wood said. "It was a good effort by everybody."

The Bruins had a good passing game against the Tigers, moving the ball well down the floor and making crisp passes into the post players.

After jumping out to a quick 11-2 lead, the Bruins never looked back and never lost control of the game.

Bandon outscored the Bruins 15-9 in the final quarter to cut the lead to less than 20 points, but the late push wasn't enough to help the Tigers past a dominant Bruin team.

Corpening and K. Bansemer each scored 13 points for the Bruins while Chase Bansemer pitched in nine and Weber and Taresh added six apiece.

In the JV game, the Bruins were able to pull out a 63-60 victory over the Tigers.

Cozad led the Bruins with 26 points to go along with nine rebounds.

The Bruins and Tigers also played a half of freshman basketball, where the younger players on each team got some time on the court as well, and the Bruins came out on top in that contest as well, 19-13.

The Bruins will be participating in the 53rd annual Winner's Edge basketball tournament this weekend in Yreka, Calif. Their first game will be at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 against Etna.
