BHHS teams split twin bills against Douglas

Lady Bruin Hannah Goergen appeared to slide in safe with the winning run in game 2 but was called out on the play.

Both the Brookings-Harbor High School baseball and softball teams split their doubleheaders against the Douglas Trojans on Friday.

Playing on the road, the Bruin baseball teams won game one by a score of 12-10, highlighted by Brandon Chandler’s grand slam home run in the 3rd inning. BHHS tallied 15 hits in the game.

The Bruins dropped the second game by an 8-6 score.

They are now 10-7 overall, 6-5 in league and sitting in 4th place.

The Lady Bruins, playing their last home games of the season, won the first game, 4-3, thanks to run scoring singles by Jessica Yock and Samantha Henry.

A controversial call in the bottom of the 8th inning likely cost BHHS a sweep of the Trojans.

With the winning run on third base and one out, Hannah Goergen broke for the plate on a dropped third strike. She was called out at the plate though it appeared she slid in under the tag. Douglas scored two runs the following inning to win, 4-2.

The Lady Bruins are 15-5 overall, 9-5 in league and are a half-game behind Douglas in 3rd place.
