Girls

The Lady Bruins continued their winning ways on Tuesday as the dominated the North Bend Bulldogs, 64-24, at North Bend High School.

After a few minutes where neither team scored in the first quarter the Lady Bruins found their offense.  They jumped on the Bulldogs with a 9-0 run and never looked back as they led 16-2 at the end of the first quarter and 37-4 at halftime.

BHHS only allowed two free throws by North Bend’s Shayla Collicott in the first quarter and held the Bulldogs without a field goal until Colllicott hit a jump shot with 0:02 left in the second quarter.

The Lady Bruins defense was stellar against a young and inexperienced North Bend team that has six freshman on the roster.

BHHS senior guard Francesca Farr had 12 points to lead the Lady Bruins in scoring.  Drew Farmer and Alaura Marrington added 8 points each.

Boys

The Bruins boys varsity basketball team lost to the North Bend Bulldogs, 54-48, Tuesday night in a nail biter of a game.

With the score tied at 38 entering the fourth quarter, Bulldog junior wingman Drew Matthews caught fire.  Matthews, who scored a game-high 20 points, led the Bulldogs in opening a 7 point lead against the Bruins, who were down a man due to a sinus infection to senior forward Ronnie Manley.

With 2:40 left in the game BHHS mounted a comeback.

Bruin Justin Murray scored and was fouled, his free throw brought BHHS to within 2 points with just under two minutes to go.

North Bend missed four consecutive free throws with under a minute left, giving the Bruins a chance to tie the game with 4.8 seconds to go.

Derek Hodge’s 3-pointer narrowly missed as the Bruins fell on the road.

The loss means the Bruins will be in fourth place in the Far West League and will have to make a playoff run on the road.
