Fall sports preparation is in full swing at Brookings-Harbor High School, and athletes began official practice for fall sports on Monday.
Rain earlier this week forced the football team to move practice drills from Elmer Bankus Field to another area to prevent damage to the football field.
The official varsity season begins on Tuesday, Sept. 2, the first day of school, with volleyball teams playing their first games of the season against Gold Beach High School. The match starts at 6:30 p.m. at the CFCU Pavilion at BHHS.
"The volleyball team will have only one junior varsity team for the first time," said volleyball coach Lori Cooper.
Football follows, with the first game of the season at home against Hidden Valley High School at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, at Elmer Bankus Field.
The boys' soccer team will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 9, against Phoenix High School at BHHS.
Six senior returning starters anchor a good turnout for the boys' soccer team.
The cross country team begins practice on Monday and will compete for the first time on Sept. 9, traveling to Gold Beach for the Ben Creek Invitational.
The girl's soccer team rounds out the fall season openers against Douglas High School on Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m. at BHHS.
Girls' soccer participation is up with a large class of freshmen booters. The team features a new coach.
Individual fall sports previews will appear in the Curry Coast Pilot beginning Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Correction: The Pilot previously reported that there would not be a junior varsity football team. This is incorrect. There will be a junior varsity team.
