Thanks for getting our bear back

Editor:

On behalf of Brookings- Harbor High School, we would like to send a major thank you to Kolleen Stafford and Ray Bruce for helping us get our bear back.

We went through a lot of obstacles to find someone willing to take on such a big task, but you really came through and it would not have been possible without your help! It is people like you that make our community such a great place to live.

We would also like to send our deepest gratitude to every member of the community that supports the school district and what they stand for. We are very grateful for everything the good folk of Brookings do for us.

Hospice team is wating to help

Editor:

Greetings, Curry County. Every November, Curry County Home Health & Hospice reaches out to our community to raise awareness about the compassionate care that hospice provide patients and families coping with serious and life-limiting illness. This month of awareness provides an opportunity for us to remind people that hospice care helps patients and families focus on living.

This surprises some people.

Those of us who have worked in the field have seen firsthand how hospice care can improve the quality of life. And research shows that families report a better quality of life under hospice care.  To further the surprise, there’s a growing body of research showing that hospice care may prolong the lives of some people who receive care.

Your local hospice team provides expert medical care to keep patients comfortable and able to enjoy time with loved ones. This team answers questions, offers advice on what to expect, and helps families with the duties of caregiving. They also provide emotional and spiritual support for the entire family.

With the help of hospice, patients and families alike can focus on what’s most important — enjoying life together, and living as fully as possible.

This important message lasts beyond the month of November, and is important all year round.

If you or a loved one is facing a serious or life-limiting illness, the time to find out more about hospice care is right now. Call and speak to a team member about the services that are provided locally, 541-469-0405, 541-247-7084 or 541-332-0273.

There is more that can be done!

Demand closure of U.S. border

Editor:

This president is suing Arizona’s Governor Jan Brewer for doing a job he won’t do.

He is supposed to keep all of us safe, and be for our citizens. First, build the fence.

We can’t sit back and let the president and his crew not protect our borders. And not help the governor and sheriff of Arizona, and other states. They (the governor and sheriff) have to not only fight the illegal drug cartels, but also our own president and his bunch — how would they like all this in their back yard or cities? The drug cartel has put a $1 million bounty on Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz. If they think it’s so safe on the borders now, why don’t they take their families there for a visit? There are big government signs in the desert saying it’s not safe there.

When so many come here illegally, it puts a strain on the finances if nothing else, and they go into all of our states. It is far reaching. I’m sure it has helped put California where it is today.

Why doesn’t Oregon join the other states who are standing with Arizona and demand the borders be closed completely, before any form of amnesty. We should call all our senators, representatives and governor and ask that Oregon join Arizona and the other states that have already stated they stand with Arizona and want the same for us. And we should let the governor of Arizona know we stand with her and Sheriff Joe.
