Making Tea Party task a little easier

Thanks again to the progressives for making the Tea Party task in Brookings-Harbor a little easier.

This time (Pilot, March 5), it’s Tom Bozack who stated that in our Public Forum (Pilot, Feb. 23) we lied about the increase in federal government payrolls and the number of organizations that have been exempt from the federal health care law.

In the first case, Mr. Bozack confuses the payroll with the number of employees. He did not lie about the issue. He is simply confused, misinformed or did not research the difference between total employees and total government payrolls.

The second lie, according to Mr. Bozack, is that “the only exemptions to the health care law are for members of religious organizations. ...” In this case, he has not done his homework. Back in January, the Department of Health and Human Services listed in detail the more than 700 organizations that have been granted exemptions. As of this month, the number has grown to more than 1,000 according to HHS (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).

We respect Mr. Bozack’s opinions, but next time we would also appreciate a reasonable debate based on facts.

It’s my birthday – donate to SCHS

Hello, it’s the dog lady again.

Today’s word is “me.” In early April I turn – ugh-60. So I have this idea; I am asking all our dog fans and friends to donate something,  anything, to the humane society or the food bank. I have spent my life donating my time, and to this day folks still think I make money walking these dogs. It’s not always about money.

To those who love their animals as I do – you get it. But I still get remarks about how stupid I am for doing all that I do for free. I am overpaid as it is. Every day a dog owner drops off a dog, I have the most wonderful time. I have my bad days too, but these guys give me far more than I could ever give them.

So do this for me: Go to the humane society and drop off some dog food or give them 5 bucks and say “Hey, this is for Ede’s birthday,” or, “Can I walk one of the dogs for Ede’s birthday?” You can donate some canned food at the food bank instead. But do something, and then you can make my turning 60 so much sweeter.

And then you will see – no, you will understand – why I love doing what I do. I love our dog fans – thank you. Not every one likes me; that’s reality. But to those who love us, a big hug and thank you.

Money, debt enslaving nation

Our government is telling us that our national inflation rate is 1 to 2 percent.

Tell that to anyone who has bought groceries or car gas recently. Because the official CPI (Consumer Price Index) is low our seniors on Social Security have not received a COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) for the past three years, even though the actual real-life inflation is now estimated to be at least 8 and one half percent.

Hey guys, our government is lying to us big time. The official CPI is given as less food and energy. But food and energy are undoubtedly the largest components of the actual inflation rate. Doesn’t that make a lot of sense, except it assuredly has been done deliberately to lowball the inflation rate.

John Adams warned us that paper money and debt were the surest way to enslave our nation. Since the creation of the Federal Reserve system in 1913, America has relied on paper money instead of gold, and run our national debt to over $14 trillion. I believe President Adams was onto something.

Get the siren fixed so all can hear it

On Friday March 11, we all experienced a tsunami in our area.

The siren was sounded at 4 a.m., and again at approximately 11 a.m. We live in Harbor approximately three miles from the port. We are a senior subdivision of 45 mobile homes and the siren was not heard. I also understand it was not heard on Oceanview in areas. This should be remedied before other items like bike paths for our tourist. Residents should be deemed much more important.

We seem to be able to hear the noon siren, so why not the tsunami siren?  Also heard the same on KURY radio. Let’s get the siren fixed so all can hear.

Open door policy at sheriff’s office

This is in response to the story about Ted Longton (Pilot, March 9).

 I am an employee of the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, and have been for almost eight years. I would like the members of our community to know that though I do not always agree with decisions that are made by our command staff, I feel that I can go to each of them at anytime and discuss my opinion.

The current command staff has never made me feel like it is a hostile work environment. I am very disappointed in the way that the article portrays our office. This job carries a very high level of stress. With that said, I believe that we still should not try and blame others for the choices that we make.
