dance for dogs, cats
Another Saturday night and nowhere to go!
You said you are bored; what do I do to hear some music to be with some great people and maybe a little toe tapping going on, we are never too old or too young to get with that rhythm! Well, I got the place to go to dance the night away and to have fun, get dressed, put on your dancing shoes and put on a big smile and get ready to have some fun.
On Saturday, June 29, 2013, between 6-9 p.m. at the Grange hall in Harbor across from the Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center and next door to the warehouse of Barron’s they are hosting a dance for everyone; of all ages and free admission.
You will be able to do all kinds of dancing to live music by Jurassic Country. Thank you so much, Jurassic Country, for supporting the Grange and giving us an enjoyable evening with your music and talents. Come all and enjoy!
Curry County animal shelter/Pennies for Pooches, a non-profit, for donations only is providing wonderful treats and goodies for everyone to enjoy and to keep your energy up while having a great time; maybe seeing old friends or making new ones.
Come and support Curry County animal shelter/Pennies for Pooches and support our community’s Grange hall too. Thank you Grange hall for putting this on and for all who will come to support everyone that is making this possible.
League meets, elects
At their recent Annual Meeting held in Gold Beach, the League of Women Voters of Curry County heard County Clerk Reneé Kolen discuss the state of our election system and answer questions.
The League elected Al Wilson of Brookings as president for the year 2013-14. Other officers are Lucie LaBonté, Gold Beach, vice president; Charlie Alexander, Port Orford, secretary; Kathi Lindsay, north county, treasurer; and Directors Milt Nelson, Port Orford; Maggie McHugh, Gold Beach; and Genevieve Leary, Brookings.
The group heard reports of the past year’s work from Wilson and Voter Service Chair Shirley Nelson, Port Orford. Members also adopted a budget and chose study items for the coming year which include Home Rule Charter proposals and County Planning.
Local members are automatically members of the League of Women Voters of Oregon and LWV of the United States; they will also participate in state and national studies next year. Current membership of the Curry County League is 36.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. They welcome men and women of any political persuasion who want to take an active part in the issues that affect us all. For further information call 541-469-5805, 541-247-0935, or 541-332-9002.

money to memorial
The members of VFW Post 966 would like to thank the ladies of the Brookings Emblem Club 265 for their generous donation.
The money received will go toward the VFW Post 966 Military Services Memorial located at the W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery.
This memorial was long overdue, and we are honored to have been asked to take up the task of completing it. The veterans that are buried there deserve nothing less.
Thank you again!
Carlton W. Hatfield quartermaster,
VFW Post 966
wish the board well
I would like to express my gratitude to all that supported me during my four-year tenure as a member of the Brookings-Harbor School District Board of Trustees, and to those who voted for me this last election.
I wish the new board well. They will bring a fresh perceptive to the District.
I apologize to the people I may have disappointed, but I sadly discovered that one board member cannot make a difference.
Outgoing chairman of the Brookings-Harbor School District Board of Trustees
