August, the height of summer.
And just 30 days or so before September and the start of a new school year.
We started processing material for the new school year this week for the annual Back-to-School Newsletter that will appear in the Saturday, Aug. 10, issue of the Curry Coastal Pilot. Watch for information about registration, school supplies, bus routes, school calendar and more.
In the meantime, you can get the students in your life started on school success early by getting them to read every day. The goal might be 20 minutes a day (perhaps with to you) for the youngest readers, or an hour for more experienced readers. The reading material might be fiction or non-fiction, or current materials such as newspapers and magazines, or the instructions for a fun summertime recipe or craft project.
No matter how digital our world is becoming, the “secret code” to sucessful communication is still the ability to read.
