Do you need to do some last-minute Christmas shopping this weekend? Do us all an economic favor, and shop at home first.
We know it’s tempting to drive to larger shopping malls, but the closest ones are nearly a two-hour drive each way (if the weather is good, and it’s not supposed to be), it takes a lot of gas, and it’s sure to be over-crowded. And let’s be honest, there’s not much you can find in Medford, Coos Bay or Eureka, Calif., that you can’t find in Brookings.
We also know you might shop online, but getting something here by Christmas Eve – through all the storms across the nation – is unlikely.
Our shops and stores, restaurants and services are all right here, open today and through Christmas Eve, and they all are likely to offer customer service, should something go wrong, that is going to be available after Christmas.
We all have our regular shopping routines for our daily needs. This is the weekend to step out of that routine to find something special for someone special. Now’s the time to think about an Oregon Coast sweatshirt, a special batch of candy or nuts, art work, books, specialty foods, plants and flowers, pet supplies, or even new tools and gadgets for cars, gardens and homes.
Don’t forget to consider “services” that can be enjoyed after the holidays, from massages to house-cleaning, restaurant gift certificates to beauty treatments.
Do you need some ideas? Start with the full-color Holiday Gift Guide on Page 14B of today’s issue. There is also a fistful of advertising inserts in today’s issue, as well as ads on nearly every page offer that last-minute ideas.
Instead of spending your hard-earned money on gas, and spending your precious time visiting out-of-town shopping malls, let’s spend it with our neighbors. It’s the best way to boot-strap our local economy, and help those who are here all year long.
Reach all of Brookings, Harbor, and Curry County with your items to sell.
