We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but summer is nearly over. Gone are the small-town festivals, the county fair, the Fourth of July fireworks and the fish derby.
That doesn’t mean the weekends will be empty from here on out, though. In fact this weekend, particularly today, is chock full of community events. Get out there and enjoy them! Support our local artists, musicians, actors and community organizations.
Today’s activities, to name a few, include:
•The Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Brookings, followed by the Ducky Derby Eggs Benefit auction at the Chetco Community Public Library;
•Live music, food and a car show at the Brookings-Harbor food bank’s second annual Jammin’ for Jelly fundraiser at the Port of Brookings Harbor;
•Ballroom dancing at the Chetco Grange Community Center;
•The Gold Beach Brew and Art Fest;
Information about these and other weekend events can be found in today’s Bulletin Board in the Coastal Living section, or online at www.currypilot.com.
Numerous come-togethers – concerts, craft shows, festivals and light shows – are scheduled this fall and winter. Check our Web site and current Vacation Guide regularly.
Also, residents can catch the community spirit by attending a few school sports games – a fine way to encourage young athletes who need your support. Having fans in the stands will mean the world to these athletes, and they’re ready, willing and proud to show off the skills they’ve learned.
Summer may be nearly over, but there are plenty of opportunities coming up to join in community events and show your support for your fellow citizens and their endeavors.
