Charter school: Yes or no?

 

It appears the possible establishment of the proposed Riverside Academy Charter School in Brookings may hinge on one thing: how many people think it’s needed.

Those who support the idea of a charter school – and those who don’t – will have a chance to say so during a public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Brookings-Harbor High School auditorium.

Finding a solution to Social Security Bar issue

 

In the larger scheme of things, the city council’s decision to establish a right-of-way-of at Social Security Bar may not seem like a big deal. However, the Brookings City Council’s action, and the public hearing leading up to it, is a good example of how local government is supposed to work.

Change the fees for unemployed

 

The state of Oregon changed the way it issued unemployment benefits a few years back. While some of the changes make sense, the way they’ve played out has in some cases hurt the very people the program is designed to help.

State Treasurer Ted Wheeler will have the opportunity to improve things in the next few months, and he should take it.
