Are you busily preparing your holiday shopping list for Black Friday and the weeks leading up to Christmas? Do us all an economic favor, and shop at home first.
We know it’s tempting to drive to larger shopping malls, but the closest ones are nearly a two-hour drive each way (if the weather is good), it takes a lot of gas, and it’s sure to be over-crowded. And let’s be honest, there’s not much you can find in Medford, Coos Bay or Eureka, Calif., that you can’t find in Curry County.
We also know you might shop online, but there’s no guarantee it will be the right size.
Our shops and stores, restaurants and services are all right here, open today and through Christmas Eve, and they all are likely to offer customer service long after the holidays are over.
We all have our regular shopping routines for our daily needs. This is the weekend to step out of that routine to find something special for someone special. Now’s the time to think about an Oregon Coast sweatshirt, a special batch of candy or nuts, books, specialty foods, plants and flowers, pet supplies, work from local artisans, or new tools and gadgets for cars, gardens and homes.
Don’t forget to consider “services” that can be enjoyed after the holidays, from massages to house-cleaning, restaurant gift certificates to beauty treatments.

Instead of spending your hard-earned money on gas, and spending your precious time visiting out-of-town shopping malls, spend it with the people – our neighbors – who own or work for local businesses.
