Saturday, June 16

DUII, 2:30 a.m.: A 39-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants, attempting to elude and reckless driving when he failed to stop when a trooper began a pursuit in downtown Brookings. The drive reached speeds of up to 70 mph in a 35 mph zone, swerving between lanes and eventually crashing when attempted to negotiate a turn onto Carpenterville Road. He was taken into custody without incident, but refused to take a breath test at Brookings Police Department. He was transported to Curry General Hospital for a forced blood draw and lodged in the Curry County Jail.

Monday, June 18

Injured animal, 11:14 a.m.: A trooper investigated the report of an injured dog laying near the fog line on Highway 101 a couple of miles north of Port Orford.

Tuesday, June 19

Non-injury traffic crash, 6:30 a.m.: A 42-year-old was northbound on Highway 101 near Hooskanaden Slide when a deer entered the roadway and collided with her vehicle.

Trespassing, 11:50 a.m.: A caller reported a person camping illegally on Social Security Bar.

Fight, 3:45 p.m.: A trooper investigated a verbal dispute in the South Coast Center parking lot.

Wednesday, June 20

Injury traffic crash, 9:53 p.m.: A driver from Las Vegas, Nev., was making a U-turn from the shoulder of Highway 101 near Cape Ferrelo Viewpoint when she was struck by a Pistol River motorist traveling in the same direction. The driver of the car making the U-turn was transported to Curry General Hospital, treated and released.

Thursday, June 21

Drowning, 9:11 a.m.: Troopers were dispatched to Nesika Beach to assist in the rescue of a possible drowning victim in the surf. The man was transported to Curry General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Tuesday, June 26

Injury traffic crash, 3:50 p.m.: A 28-year-old driver from Crescent City was southbound near McVay Lane when she stopped for a left-turning car in front of her. However, a 23-year-old driver from Brookings failed to see her stopped and rear-ended her. The driver of the rear vehicle received minor injuries, and a child passenger in the front vehicle also received minor injuries. Neither required medical treatment. The front vehicle was driven from the scene. The rear vehicle was towed. The driver of the rear vehicle was cited for following too closely.

Disabled motorist, 12:35 p.m.: A trooper assisted a motorist change a tire on a camp trailer on Highway 101 south of Denmark. 

Fight, 5:36 p.m.: A citizen reported two SUVs on Highway 101 near 80 Acres Road and the driver of one of the vehicles pulled the driver of the other vehicle out and threw him on the ground. Oregon State Police and Curry County Sheriff’s Department searched the area but couldn’t find anything.

Wednesday, June 27

Fight, 10:48 a.m.: A trooper responded to assist a Curry County sheriff’s deputy at the scene of a fight involving four people in the 16600 block of Foster Road.

DUII, 9:23 p.m.: A 37-year-old Brookings woman was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants on Highway 101 between Hoffeldt and Benham lanes. She was transported to Curry County Jail after a breath test indicated her blood alcohol at .23 percent.
