State Police Log published Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011

Thursday, Jan. 20

Menacing, 12:15 p.m.: A 16-year-old boy was under the Chetco River bridge when a man in his 40s approached him and brandished a knife. The boy struck the man with his skateboard and fled the scene. The suspect is believed to be a local transient.

DUII, 8:30 p.m.: A trooper stopped a vehicle four miles up Jerry’s Flat Road for having no license-plate light. The driver had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. Suspect refused alcohol tests several times. A blood sample had to be taken under exigent circumstances. The 47-year-old man from Gold Beach was cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants, refusal to take a breath test, operating a vehicle without required lighting and driving without insurance.

 

Friday, Jan. 21

Fatal accident, 5 p.m.: A 50-year-old Brookings driver was northbound on Highway 101 when he struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the roadway in an unlit area near Sunshine Cove Lane. The 40-year-old transient was found deceased on arrival. The driver was not injured. Alcohol usage may have been a factor with the pedestrian.

 

Sunday, Jan. 23

Disorderly conduct, 1:31 p.m.: A woman driving on Social Security Bar who was allowing her dog to walk alongside. The dog ran to one of the fishermen on the bar. The fisherman yelled at the dog to “go away” and threw a rock in the general direction of the dog. The woman called her dog, then became angry at the fisherman and threatened him. The woman was cited for disorderly conduct and warned for allowing her dog to run at large.

 

Saturday, Jan. 29

Non-injury accident, 8:05 a.m.: A trooper responded to a call from a tow truck regarding a car off the road three miles up Winchuck River Road. While investigating, the driver and passengers showed up. The trooper found the driver lost control and skidded off the roadway at 1 a.m.

Dispute, 11:54 a.m.: A trooper responded to assist the Curry County Sheriff’s Department resolving a fight in progress a mile up Winchuck River Road involving five people. No one was injured and no one wanted to press charges.

 

Monday, Jan. 31

Possession of marijuana, 1:25 p.m.: A 49-year-old Coos Bay man was stopped for speeding. The trooper saw a glass marijuana pipe and a pill bottle with less than an ounce of marijuana. The driver was cited and released.

 

Tuesday, Feb.1

Trespassing, 6:20 p.m.: A 50-year-old transient was taken into custody by IPH Security after he was told to leave the area behind South Coast Center. The transient was cited and eventually left the location.
