Non-injury traffic crash, 8:28 a.m.: A 76-year-old Brookings man was northbound on Highway 101 heading up Cape Sebastian hill when he had to swerve to avoid another vehicle attempting to change lanes. When he swerved, he lost control, slid off the roadway and rolled his car onto its side.
Non-injury traffic crash, 9:12 a.m.: A 79-year-old Gold Beach man struck a deer crossing Highway 101 in Gold Beach.
Sunday, Aug. 4
Angling complaint, 9:16 a.m.: A trooper contacted a fisherman who had a fish on his line offshore from Brookings. When the 48-year-old Ashland man netted the salmon, he attempted to pinch the barb down on the hook without being seen. The trooper ordered the man to leave the hook alone. The man was cited for using a barbed hook and the salmon was released into the ocean unharmed.
Angling complaint, 3:06 p.m.: An Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fish checker noticed a 64-year-old Klamath man had a coho salmon in his daily catch after the season ended on July 31. Oregon State Police cited the man.
Angling complaint, 3:07 p.m.: A trooper patroling offshore from Brookings contacted three anglers trolling for salmon. All three were found using barbed hooks, which are prohibited. A 41-year-old Klamath Falls man, and a 51-year-old man and a 28-year-old man from Lakeview were cited.
Angling complaint, 3:08 p.m.: An 67-year-old angler from Eureka, Calif., was cited by Oregon State Police after he was found with a wild coho salmon.
Tuesday, Aug. 6
Angling complaint, 2:46 p.m.: A trooper contacted a fisherman at the Port of Brookings Harbor launch ramp who had landed a yelloweye rockfish, a prohibited species. The 60-year-old man from Yucaipa, Calif., was cited.
Wednesday, Aug. 7
Angling complaint, 10:07 a.m.: An Oregon Department of Wildlife fish checker at the Port of Brookings Harbor found a 63-year-old Brookings man with an undersized Chinook salmon. He was cited by Oregon State Police.
Angling complaint, 11:49 a.m.: An Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fish checker at the Port of Brookings Harbor found a 77-year-old Brookings man with a coho salmon out of season. He was cited by Oregon State Police.
Angling complaint, 11:51 a.m.: An Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fish checker at the Port of Brookings Harbor found a 49-year-old Medford man with a cabezon rockfish out of season. He was given a warning by Oregon State Police.
