Police Log June 25, 2014

Friday, June 20 

Missing person, 1:23 a.m. A juvenile living in the 500 block of Fern Avenue was entered as missing after failing to return home as expected. He returned home later in the morning and said he had told his parents he was going to be staying at a friend’s house. 

Recovery of stolen vehicle, 1:28 a.m.: A vehicle that had been stolen from a residence on Vista Drive was located, unoccupied, by officers on Mill Beach near Sandy Lane. The registered owner was notified, so he could make arrangements to pick it up.

Juvenile problem, 1:28 a.m.: A juvenile was transported to her residence and released to the custody of her uncle. 

Theft, 11:46 a.m.: North Bank Chetco River Road. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 12:45 p.m.: North Bank Chetco River Road. 

Suspicious conditions 1:02 p.m.: 1100 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Harassment, 1:23 p.m.: A report of harassment by neighbors in the 1200 block of Moore Street was unfounded. 

Fire, 2:37 p.m.: Brookings Fire units responded to smoldering wood chips at Fred Meyer. Firefighters doused them with water and stirred them around to prevent another fire. 

Hazard, 3:41 p.m.: 300 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Juvenile problem, 4:05 p.m.: Officers counseled parent and juvenile in the 600 block of Old County Road. 

Suspicious conditions, 5:32 p.m.: A man made inappropriate comments to a juvenile in the showers at Harris Beach State Park campground. The juvenile made it safely back to camp, officers were unable to locate the suspect. 

Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, 6:55 p.m.: A citizen caught someone breaking into his vehicle at Harris Beach and was able to give a good description of suspect and vehicle to officers, who later located both. A man was arrested for unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and a warrant out of Del Norte County for dangerous drugs. He was transported to jail. His vehicle was seized for evidence. 

Illegal fireworks, 8:32 p.m.: Officers observed but were unable to locate illegal fireworks around Pioneer Road. 

Shots fired, 9:22 p.m.: A citizen reported hearing what she thought were shots fired on the beach at the end of Wharf Street, but agreed it could have been fireworks. Officer was unable to locate the source. 

Dispute/fight, 10:11 p.m.: A juvenile had a fight with grandparents in the 17000 block of Parkview Drive. An officer provided a courtesy transport to a friend’s residence, with her mom’s permission. 

Prowler, 10:42 p.m.: An officer checked the Marina Heights area for a possible prowler reported by a resident, but did not locate anyone or anything out of the ordinary. 

Intoxicated subject, 10:46 p.m.: Highway 101, Smith River. 

Disorderly conduct, 11:10 p.m.: Officers spoke to a woman who was acting disorderly and making demands in the Brookings Police Department lobby. 


Brookings police made four traffic stops resulting in two citations. 

Saturday, June 21 

 Burglary, 4:56 a.m.: 15900 block of Highway 101. 

Burglary, 6:06 a.m.: 15900 block of Highway 101. 

Unauthorized use of a vehicle, 8:52 a.m.: A woman in the 1200 block of Chetco Avenue attempted to report her vehicle stolen, when it was not. She was arrested for possession marijuana and transported to jail.

Dispute/fight, 11:31 a.m.: 300 block of Spruce Drive. 

Juvenile problem, 1:13 p.m.: 300 block of South Hazel Street. 

Non-injury vehicle accident: 16200 block of HIghway 101. 

Non-injury traffic crash, 3:03 p.m.: A fender bender was reported in the 500 block of Fifth Street. 

Theft, 4 p.m.: 97900 block of Shopping Center Avenue. 

Criminal mischief, 4:14 p.m.: A report of juveniles picking bark off the trees at Stout Park. They said they were playing in the sap. They were counseled. 

Shots fired, 8:21 p.m.: Miller Bar. 

Illegal fireworks, 9:15 p.m.: Fireworks observed in the area of Sporthaven Beach. 


Brookings police made six traffic stops, resulting in one citation. 

Sunday, June 22

Suspicious conditions, 1:05 a.m.: 1600 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle; 2:43 p.m.: Smith River beach. 

Child neglect, 3:11 p.m.: 16200 block of Highway 101.

Suspicious conditions, 4:54 p.m.: 700 block of Second Street. 

Suspicious conditions, 6:59 p.m.: 300 block of Cove Road. 

Suspicious conditions, 7:05 p.m.: 1600 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Minor in possession of tobacco, 8:22 p.m.: A person reporting minors smoking cigarettes in the 1100 block of Chetco Avenue. Officers located the individuals and they were older than 18. 

Driving complaint, 11:34 p.m.: Police received a report of an intoxicated driver in Harbor; city units advised as well as Curry County Sheriff’s Department and Oregon State Patrol. 


Brookings police made three traffic stops, resulting in no citations. 

Monday, June 23 

Assist motorist, 2:26 a.m.: A semi-truck driver looking for a place to rest was advised of the rest area at Harris Beach. 

Lost property, 10:18 a.m.: 700 block of Spruce Street. 

Suspicious conditions, 12:38 p.m.: 400 block of Fern Avenue. 

Disabled vehicle, 3:56 p.m.: Highway 101 near milepost 349. 

Harassment, 4:09 p.m.: 300 block of Fifth Street. 

Lost property, 4:56 p.m.: Harris Beach day use area.

Suspicious conditions, 5:01 p.m.: 800 block of Elk Drive. 

Dispute/fight, 7:18 p.m.: 500 block of Fir Street. 

Disorderly conduct, 7:46 p.m.: 500 block of Fir Street. 

Dispute/fight, 10:39 pm.: 400 block of Fern Street. 


Brookings police made seven traffic stops, resulting in no citations.
