Police Log June 15, 2013

Tuesday, June 11 

Injury vehicle accident, 1:52 a.m.: Call transferred to California Highway Patrol. 

Warrant service, 4:12 a.m.: Verbal warning to driver: Failure to use headlights when required and expired license. Cite to passenger for traffic offense warrant out of Curry County Circuit Court; Chetco and Ransom Avenues. 

Animal complaint, 11:24 a.m.: Citizen collected two dogs off highway. Officer located owner whose young child left a door unlatched. Dogs and owner reunited; 2200 block of Ransom Avenue. 

Illegal camping, 12:24 p.m.: Appeared someone might be camping. No camp found, just paths through area; lot behind 400 block of Hillside Lane. 

Theft, 12:41 p.m.: Theft of a sign from local business; 1100 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Suspicious conditions, 1:01 p.m.: Young man in black trench coat videotaping event at the high school football field; 500 block of Fern Street. 

Burglary, 2 p.m.: Citizen’s home was burgled by unknown suspect who entered through a window and stole medication; 800 block of Limbaugh Way.

Animal complaint, 4:25 p.m.: Citizen reported being bitten by a neighbor’s aggressive cat; 600 block of Old County Road.  

Driving complaint, 4:51 p.m.: Several instances of reckless driving by the same white vehicle was reported at the corner of Arnold Lane and Fifield Street. Officers requested to watch for this to prevent harm to the many pedestrians in the area; 1000 block of Fifield Street. 

Minor in possession (MIP) of alcohol, 9:45 p.m.: Minor was cited into circuit court for MIP-alcohol and warned for open  container in vehicle. He was given a courtesy transport to his residence; Skate Park. 

Wednesday, June 13

Dispute/fight, 6:50 a.m.: Two 911 calls regarding neighbors hearing a domestic dispute. Unknown if it is physical or verbal but they could hear doors slamming. Callers were concerned as there is a young child in the home and they could hear the child crying. Call given to Curry County Sheriff’s office; 97800 block of Bethiany Lane.

Harassment, 8:12 a.m.: Woman reporting harassment by unwanted physical contact that occurred over a year ago where she used to work; 400 block of Mill Beach Road. 

Abandoned vehicle, 11:03 a.m.: A male subject contacted regarding what appeared to be an abandoned vehicle. The registered owner agreed to move it by the end of the day; 500 block of Spruce Street. 

Theft, 11:13 a.m.: 1100 block of Ransom Avenue, 

Assault, 11:38 a.m.: Report of assault. A male entered another male’s home uninvited. When he was asked to leave, he became belligerent. A physical dispute ensued and there were minor injuries; 500 block of Rosichelli Drive. 

Panhandling, 12:03 p.m.: Caller reporting two transients who approached her and asked for change. When the caller declined, one of the males spoke rudely to her. An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate anyone matching the description given; 600 block of Fifth Street.

Identity theft, 2:10 p.m.: Detective following up on ID theft from local resident who found out that someone used her ID while filing an accident claim; address unknown. 

Suspicious conditions, 3:13 p.m.: Report received of a suspicious male subject staring at families in the park. A transient was contacted and he agreed to move elsewhere; 600 block of Old County Road – Azalea Park

Theft, 6:09 p.m.: “Buddy” the spiky brown lizard stolen from the library; 405 Alder Street – Chetco Community Public Library. 

Tree down, 7:17 p.m.: Highway 101 at Dawson Road. 

Juvenile problem, 7:47 p.m.: Several juveniles were contacted and warned they were not allowed to ride their bikes in the skate park. Ongoing issue; 1100 block of Ransom Avenue. 

Fire, 10:26 p.m.:  Caller advising of a campfire on the beach. Unable to see flames but could see light flickering. Brookings Fire responded, checked the area and located a small unattended campfire. No action taken as the fire was not in danger of spreading elsewhere; North side of the north jetty.  

Thursday, June 14 

Suspicious conditions, 1:40 a.m.: Brookings-Harbor High School. 

Found property, 9:43 a.m.: Cell phone found at Whaleshead Beach. It was placed in the lost and found drawer at Brookings Police department; Whaleshead Beach. 

Criminal trespass, 10:32 a.m.: 800 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Criminal trespass, 11:11 a.m.: 400 block of Oak Street. 

Forgery/fraud/bad check, 11:12 a.m.: 800 block of Railroad Street. 

Suspicious conditions, 11:31 a.m.: Suspicious person heading toward Azalea Park; Pacific Avenue. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 12:17 p.m.: Camelia Lane and Highway 101. 

Field information, 1:06 p.m.: Juvenile on gas scooter, advised they must be 16 years old in order to operate. Parent will pick juvenile and scooter up; Oak Street and Pacific Avenue. 

Suspicious conditions, 2:02 p.m.: Chetco River bridge. 

Safety/traffic hazard, 4:13 p.m.: North Bank Chetco River Road and Highway 101. 

Dispute/fight, 5:03 p.m.: Verbal dispute between transients. Gone on arrival; 900 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Suspicious conditions, 5:19 p.m.: 700 block of First Street. 

Animal complaint, 5:21 p.m.: Caller reporting his dog is missing from his residence. Female brindle terrier mix approximately 45 pounds with a red and white collar, no tags. The dog is 14 years old; 500 block of Ransom Avenue. 

Dispute/fight, 7:40 p.m.: Four male transients warned for disorderly conduct after an altercation between them took place. They were asked to leave the property; 1100 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Probation violation, 9:17 p.m.: Brookings area.
