Police Log July 13, 2013

Tuesday, July 9 

Possession of drugs, 12:21 a.m.: During a traffic stop at Chetco Avenue and Willow Street, a female passenger was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana, which was seized. 

Runaway 1:34 a.m.: Officers contacted a juvenile in the 1100 block of Chetco Avenue who was a runaway out of California. Police  turned him over to the care of Department of Health Services which will  coordinate his return to California. 

Prowler, 3:32 a.m.: An officer responded to a report of a prowler in the 200 block of Marine Drive, but was unable to locate anyone or anything suspicious. 

Harassment, 3:48 a.m.: An officer is investigating a report of ongoing harassment in the 500 block of Railroad Street.

Animal complaint, 5:18 a.m.: A black Lab with a collar and tags was running at large and barking in the 600 block of Hassett Street. The dog was friendly, but would not stop barking or trying to get into yards. 

Suspicious conditions, 8 a.m.: An officer was unable to locate a transient reported to be trespassing in the 400 block of Alder Street. The officer did find a bag with cans and a large duffel bag and left note on the bag advising the owner that he is trespassing and the area will be patrolled. 

Theft, 10:13 a.m.: A citizen in the 500 block of Ransom Avenue put a Weedeater brand lawn mower out front before getting ready to mow and went inside. When she returned, her lawnmower appeared to be in the neighbor’s backyard. She called police to report the theft. An investigation revealed the mower in the neighbor’s yard was a close look alike. The person who had taken the caller’s mower returned with it after repairing it. 

 Driving complaint, 12:23 p.m.: Police receive a report of an older beige pickup with a bright red canopy, driven by a woman in her 40s, being driven very slowly on Highway 101, and weaving within the lane. An officer was unable to locate the described vehicle. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 1:29 p.m.: A fender bender was reported at the U.S. Post Office. 

Criminal trespass, 4:22 p.m.: A disorderly person at a business in the 300 block of Wharf Street left before an officer arrived. 

Threats, 4:31 p.m.: 16000 block of Highway 101. 

Driving complaint, 5:12  p.m.: Highway 101, northbound from Whaleshead. 

Assist public, 7:26 p.m.: An officer contacted a large group of juveniles who were jumping on containers in the 300 block of Fifth Street. They were advised to stop. 

Illegal burn, 8:14 p.m.: A citizen was concerned about campers about 9 miles up North Bank Chetco River Road with a campfire during fire season. 

Non-injury vehicle accident; 9:17 p.m.: Oregon State Police responded to fender bender in the 15900 block of Highway 101. 

Driving complaint, 11:06 p.m.: Officers were unable to locate trucks driven recklessly in the 600 block of Spruce Street. 

Wednesday, July 10 

Burglary, 9:33 a.m.: 99300 block of Hendry Lane. 

Found property, 9:33 a.m.: Railroad and Fifth streets. 

Animal complaint, 11:56 a.m.: An officer checked on a dog that was reportedly locked in a vehicle for an extended period of time in the 900 block of Brooke Lane. 

Hit and run, 2:41 p.m.: 1000 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 2:49 p.m.: Single car accident was reported on Highway 101 at Lone Ranch. 

Fire, 7:02 p.m.: A small bark fire was reported at Fred Meyer. It was extinguished by Brookings Fire. 

Disabled vehicle, 9:08 p.m.: A citizen reported a vessel no longer under power, very close to the beach, in danger of going aground off Sporthaven Beach. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed it to be the dredge under normal operation. 

Suspicious conditions, 9:46 p.m.: An unoccupied vehicle was parked in the lower parking lot at Azalea Park. The operator was nowhere to be found. 

Explosion, 11:43 p.m.: The sound of a loud blast that seemed louder than a firecracker in the 300 block of Alder Street brought people out of their houses to investigate. The caller thought someone may have had an accident in the area. A thorough check of the area by law enforcement did not turn up anything unusual.

Thursday, July 11

Suspicious conditions, 12:02 a.m.: Police received a report of a man yelling in the Chetco Point area. During the investigation, three females were contacted, two of them were sent home from the day-use area. The females advised they didn’t hear a man yelling, but did see a man walking his dog. Meanwhile, one man was found camping within the day-use area and was told to pack up and move on. 

Dispute/fight, 11:14 a.m.: An argument was reported at Wild Rivers Motor Lodge.

Dispute/fight, 2:19 p.m.: 500 block of Hassett Street.

Hit and run, 2:30 p.m.: 1100 block of Sandy Lane.

Assist public, 3:28 p.m.: A caller reported they lost their Chihuahua in the 400 block of Fern Avenue. Thor was eventually found behind Dairy Queen.

Driving complaint, 3:59 p.m.: Highway 101 southbound from Pistol River.

Found property, 4:10 p.m.: A cell phone was found at a construction site and placed in the lost and found drawer.

Suspicious conditions, 6:59 p.m.: Several people reported transients at the Bankus Fountain who were yelling at people. The transients were gone when police arrived.
