Police Log April 27, 2013

Tuesday, April 23 

Welfare check, 6:53 a.m.: A woman in the middle of Chetco Avenue was causing motorists to go around her. She was given a courtesy transport to her residence. 

Animal complaint, 8:07 a.m.: A loose horse was reported on Carpenterville Road at Rainbow Rock Road. 

Animal complaint, 9:55 a.m.: Police recieved numerous reports of an injured deer that needed to be dispatched in the 900 block of Third Street.

Driving complaint, 10:21 a.m.: A driving complaint was actually a mutual road rage incident which occurred on North Bank Chetco River Road. 

Identity theft, 10:49 a.m.: A woman in the 1200 block of Iris Street reported her  Social Security number was used fraudulently. 

Illegal camping, 11:18 a.m.: A male transient was warned for illegal camping on private property on Ross Road. 

Forgery/fraud/bad check, 1:21 p.m.: A female resident in the 1000 block of Ransom Avenue was the victim of fraud. 

Animal complaint, 2:21 p.m.: A dog fell out of the back of a truck that was driving at a high rate of speed into town on North Bank Chetco River Road. 

Threats, 2:38 p.m.: An officer assisted a parent with an ongoing bullying issue at one of the schools.

Animal complaint, 3:44 p.m.: Police received a report of dog left in a vehicle with windows only cracked in the parking lot near the can recycle station of Fred Meyer. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 4:07 p.m.: A minor fender-bender was reported at Hemlock and Fern streets. 

Criminal trespass, 4:08 p.m.: Several transients near the fountain at Fifth Street and Chetco Avenue were standing in a group drinking alcohol. They were told to move along and did so. 

Suspicious conditions, 4:42 p.m.: Harris Beach State Park.

Misuse of 911, 5:38 p.m.: An infant playing with a cell phone in the 96700 block of East Harris Heights Drive caused the phone to dial 911 multiple times. An adult called back and apologized. 

Disorderly conduct, 6:28 p.m.: A disorderly hitchhiker near Carpenterville Road was reported to be jumping out into traffic when cars wouldn’t stop for him. A deputy provided a courtesy transport to Gold Beach.      

Theft, 5:40 p.m.: A citizen reported the theft of an iPod by a family  member.

Forgery/fraud/bad check, 5:48 p.m.: A citizen reported a suspected fraudulent payment for artwork. There was no loss of property or  money in this case.

Possession of drugs, 7:11 p.m.: A traffic stop of a vehicle occupied by multiple people at Highway 101 and Lower Harbor Road resulted in citations issued for open container, minor in possession of alcohol and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. 

Found property, 7:54 p.m.: An iPhone found in Brookings was turned in to the police department and later reunited with its owner. 

Criminal mischief, 8:30 p.m.: Chetco River Road above Second Bridge. 

Wednesday, April 24 

Dispute/fight, 12:33 a.m.: An officer came upon a fight between two men in the 300 block of Fifth Street. It was a mutual combat situation and neither wished to press charges against the other. 

Fire, 6:43 a.m.: Brookings fire responded to a fully engulfed vehicle in the 18000 block of Gardner Ridge Road. 

Suspicious conditions, 7:37 a.m.: A suspicious vehicle was reported in the school area.  

Fire, 9:42 a.m.: Police received a report of smoke coming from the west side of Highway 101 north of Lone Ranch. 

Animal complaint, 10:46 a.m.: A barking dog was reported on Mill Beach Road. 

Theft, 12:45 p.m.: 300 block of Fifth Street. 

Harassment, 4:04 p.m.: 600 block of Pioneer Road. 

Violation of city ordinance, 2:55 p.m.: A non-operational vehicle was parked over the allowed time in the 400 block of Fir Street. 

Found property, 5:55 p.m.: 98100 block of North Bank Chetco River Road. 

DUII, 8:27 p.m.: A report was received about a possible intoxicated driver. Officers were able to locate the vehicle speeding about a half hour later. The driver was arrested for DUII and released to a sober driver. 

Assist public, 8:41 p.m.: A vehicle was found locked with all the interior lights on in the 300 block of Wharf Street. The owner was contacted.

Possession of drugs, 8:45 p.m.: A passenger in a vehicled involved in traffic stop on the Chetco River bridge was cited for possession of marijuana. 

Harassment, 9:29 p.m.: An incomplete call was received and upon callback, an adult female advised she was slapped by her mother, but was getting ready to leave the home for the evening. An officer responded to the 800 block of Kevin Place to speak with all parties about the issue and all parties separated for the evening. 

Misuse of 911: A man was arrested for misuse of 911; 95900 block of Cape Ferello Road.

Thursday, April 25

Driving complaint, 8:24 a.m.: A complaint was received regarding a possible drunk driver on Highway 101 northbound from the California border. Police found the driver was not intoxicated.

Warrant service, 10:45 a.m.: A woman was arrested for a local warrant at North Bank Chetco River Road and Chetco Avenue.

Assault, 12:17 p.m.: An unknown man walked into Dairy Queen, threw a soda in a juvenile’s face and left. The mother provided a description of the man and his vehicle.

Injury traffic crash, 12:39 p.m.: A multi-car crash was reported in the Fred Meyer parking lot.

Warrant service, 1:39 p.m.: A man was arrested on a local warrant in the 500 block of Fir Street.

Animal complaint, 3:34 p.m.: A woman reported she wanted two unattended dogs removed from Easy Manor Park before she would allow her children to play there. The dogs were gone when police arrived.

Driving complaint, 4:51 p.m.: Police received a report of a possibly intoxicated driver on Highway 101 southbound from near the Winchuck River.

Bike/skateboard complaint, 5:50 p.m.: A boy was warned for riding his bike without a helmet at the skate park.

Dispute/fight, 7 p.m.: A verbal dispute between three people was possibly escalating on West Benham Lane.

Information, 8:25 p.m.: A resident on Cedar Street received a phone call from Jamaica. The man on the phone attempted to gain personal information “to make sure a payment was going to go through.” The man refused to say what company he was representing or what payment he was referring to. The caller was given the number to the Oregon Attorney General’s Office.

Loud noise, 9:19 p.m.: Loud music was reported in the 500 block of Fir Street. The apartment tenants agreed to turn down the music.

DUII, 10:11 p.m.: A business on Railroad Street called to report a drunk woman had driven away in her vehicle after she was warned by employees. An officer saw the vehicle swerving and a traffic stop resulted in the woman being arrested and transported to Curry County Jail.

Flue fire, 11:57 p.m.: Flames were showing out the top of a chimney on Woodland Court. Brookings fire reponded and contained the fire.
