Police Log April 20, 2013

Tuesday, April 16 

Civil problem, 9:55 a.m.: An employee of a motel in the 1200 block of Chetco Avenue reported two occupants of a room had burned their bedding. 

Disorderly conduct, 10:57 a.m.: Officers told a disorderly adult man to not return to Curry Medical Center and provided him with a courtesy transport to the DMV office. 

Theft, 11:44 a.m.: 300 block of Fifth Street. 

Probation violation, 12:38 p.m.: An adult male transient found in the 500 block of Hemlock Street was in violation of his probation by being north of the Chetco River bridge. He was given a courtesy transport back to Harbor.

Assault, 2:13 p.m.: Officers followed up on the report of an assault that occurred last Saturday on Chetco Point Terrace. 

Found property, 2:39 p.m.: A wallet found at Myers Creek in Pistol River was placed in the mailbox to be transported to the Curry County Sheriff’s office for safekeeping. 

Suspicious conditions, 5:45 p.m.: Information was taken regarding a couple of incidents that occurred at the Southwestern Oregon Community College Curry Campus. 

Found property, 5:48 p.m.: A found TracFone was placed in Brookings Police Department’s lost and found. 

Welfare check, 7:05 p.m.: An officer checked on an elderly woman who was acting confused inside a business in the 600 block of Chetco Avenue. She seemed fine and returned to her residence just around the corner. 

Driving complaint, 7:13 p.m.: Officers were unable to locate a vehicle reported to be driving at a high rate of speed from Harbor into Brookings. 


Brookings police served a  warrant, checked several buildings, and made several traffic stops, issuing verbal  warnings to motorists for infractions. 

Wednesday, April 17

Misuse of 911, 1:51 a.m.: A caller on 911 wanting the phone number for the Boston Police Department was referred to 411 for information. 

Misuse of 911, 5:27 a.m.: A citizen in the 400 block of Fern Avenue wanted to report something to the FBI and was directed to call information for the appropriate number. 

Suspicious conditions, 8:15 a.m.: A resident in tye 600 block of Mardon Court received  a call from Orchard Bank asking for personal information. 

Criminal trespass, 9:11 a.m.: A man was arrested for criminal trespass in the 500 block of Fir Street after being held at Taser point when he attempted to flee. 

Theft, 9:17 a.m.: Two men were sought for the theft of compressor from private property on Alder Street. 

Illegal camping, 9:54 a.m.:  An unattended campsite was located north of the Chetco River North Jetty. 

Violation of city ordinance, 10:09 a.m.; A parking complaint was received regarding several vehicles that are parked on the roadway for extended periods of time. An officer checked the area for a specific vehicle mentioned and advised there was no violation at this time. The vehicle was parked on private property at  Tanbark Road and Seascape Court. 

Criminal trespass, 10:25 a.m.: Bridge Street. 

Parking violation, 12:54 p.m.: Parking issues were reported in the 1700 block of Arch Lane. 

Missing person, 2:43 p.m.: A 911 caller was concerned for his female companion who became separated from him in the Lone Ranch area. She was later located and as OK. 

Criminal trespass, 2:49 p.m.: 1300 block of Chetco Avenue. 

Fire, 6:45 p.m.: A fire was reported on the beach close to driftwood at Chetco Point. A Brookings firefighter responded to check. It was unattended; however, there was no danger of it spreading. 

Dispute/fight, 8:24 p.m.: A citizen reported hearing a dispute in the area of Pioneer Road. A vehicle had been heard driving erratically around the block and a man and woman were fighting. 

DUII, 8:33 p.m.: One woman was arrested for cited and released at Brookings Police Department for driving under the influence of intoxicants on Lundeen Lane. 

Driving complaint, 10:50 p.m.: A caller reported a vehicle had failed to maintain lane through town, possibly driven by an intoxicated or distracted driver. 


Brookings police made several  traffic stops, and issued  warnings — including for speeding and failure to obey traffic control devices.

Thursday, April 18

Criminal trespassing, 1:54 a.m.: A caller reported transients trespassing on her property in the 16300 block of Lower Harbor Road.

Suspicious conditions, 4 a.m.: 16000 block of Boat Basin Road.

Dispute/fight, 7:29 a.m.: 16000 block of Boat Basin Road.

Hazard, 9:26 a.m.: 1000 block of Chetco Avenue.

Driving complaint, 10:25 a.m.: Ransom Avenue between Fern Avenue and Kevin Place.

Illegal camping, 12:12 p.m.: Macklyn Cove.

Dispute/fight, 1:23 p.m.: Highway 101 and North Bank Chetco River Road.

Non-injury traffic crash, 2:05 p.m.: Oak Street and Pacific Avenue.

Criminal mischief, 2:36 p.m.: 1200 block of Chetco Avenue.

Harassment, 2:58 p.m.: 600 block of Chetco Ave.

Telephone harassment, 3:51 p.m.: 800 block of Fawn Drive.

Lost property, Fifth and Railroad streets.


Brookings police made several traffic stops for defective lighting, illegal U-turns, failure to obey traffic control devices, failure to carry insurance and failure to obtain and Oregon driver license.
