Court Report May 25, 2013

Justin Roy Grimsley, born 1978, of Brookings, was issued a warrant after failing to appear in court on a probation violation.

The court has agreed to hear the motion of Bryan Allen Banfield, born 1975, of Brookings, who is asking for relief from reporting as a sex offender. The case stems from a 1995 felony sexual abuse incident.

Ronald Craig Berry, born 1963, Smith River, failed to appear on two charges of criminal trespassing.

Benjamin John Larsen, born 1986, of Brookings, pleaded guilty and was convicted of felony possession of methamphetamine charges. His license will be suspended for six months, and further sentencing is slated.

Rick Victor Nelson, born 1946, of Brookings, pleaded no contest to theft charges, was convicted and fined $500.

Benjamin Kolton Remy, born 1994, of Gold Beach, pleaded guilty and was convicted on charges of attempting to elude a police vehicle and reckless driving. He was sentenced to 24 months’ probation, 10 days in jail, fined $400 and will have his license suspended for a year. A charge of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a controlled substance were dismissed.

Kelsey Christian Yunker, born 1978, of Brookings, pleaded no contest and was convicted on possession of marijuana charges. He was sentenced to 36 months’ probation, 30 days in jail, fined $1,200. For a probation violation, he was sentenced to six days in jail and fined $25.

James Barrett George, born 1965, of Harbor, failed to appear in court on DUII charges.

Jenny Rae Beers, born 1971, of Brookings, was arraigned on DUII charges.

Michael C. Carson, born 1961, of Brookings, was arraigned on DUII charges.

Kelsi Elizabeth Covington, born 1991, of Grants Pass, failed to appear for arraignment on possession of a controlled substance, four charges of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and two charges of theft.

Melissa Ariane Saunders, born 1981, of Crescent City, pleaded guilty and was convicted on theft charges. She was fined $300.

Cristyne Warren Hunter, born 1981, of Harbor, pleaded guilty and was convicted of disorderly conduct and sentenced to 18 months probation, fined $690 and must attend alcohol, drug and anger counseling. Two other charges were dismissed.

Patrick Roger Peil, born 1989, of Brookings, failed to appear in court and was found guilty by default. He was fined $500.

Peter Lester Brierly, born 1965, of Brookings, pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and four harassment charges and faces an August 6 trial.

Jeannie Paulett Carter, born 1970, of Gold Beach, pleaded guilty and was convicted of disorderly conduct. She was sentenced to 18 months of probation, five days in jail and fined $555. Another charge was dismissed.

Tracey Maude Flint, born 1955, of Gold Beach, pleaded not guilty to a menacing charge and faces an August 1 trial.

Desireé Rosa Hood, born 1982, of Spokane, Wash., pleaded guilty to DUII and was sentenced to one year of diversion, alcohol counseling and must have an ignition lock placed in her car.

Randal Ray Ritz, born 1957, of Brookings, was convicted on charges of disorderly conduct.

Michael Allan Ray Rodgers, born 1982, of Gold Beach, has had a warrant issued for his arrest after failing to appear in court on theft charges.

Keith Daniel Winslow, born 1984, of Gold Beach, pleaded guilty and was convicted on DUII charges.

Susan Diane Heggstrom, born 1963, of Brookings, was convicted on theft charges and sentenced to 24 months probation, 30 days in jail suspended, fined $1,550 in fines and ordered to pay $8.12 restitution.

Thomas R. Munyon, born 1983, of Brookings, pleaded guilty to careless driving and was convicted and fined $435.

Chamet Spring Phillippi, born 1981, of Brookings, pleaded guilty and was convicted on charges of possession of methamphetamine and a separate charge of possession of a controlled substance. Another charge was dismissed. Her license is suspended six months and further sentencing is pending.

David C. Rickel, born 1957, of Port Orford, pleaded not guilty to setting his fishing gear out for more than 14 days without landing it; he faces trial May 30.

Justin Dale Perry, born 1977, of Bandon, failed to appear in court and has a warrant out for his arrest related to felony burglary charges.

Kenneth Allen Vandervoorden Jr., born 1987, of Gold Beach, was arraigned on a probation violation.

Harlan Ernst Watkins Jr., born 1980, of Crescent City, was convicted of DUII and sentenced to 48 months’ probation, 90 days in jail, fined $5,190, must attend alcohol treatment and has had his license revoked for life.

Tuesday, May 21

Jerry Richard Howard, 34, of Harbor, for a court committment for contempt of court; no bail.

Wednesday, May 22

Gary Raymond Games, 69, no hometown listed, warrant for two counts of sexual abuse; bail set at $100,000.

David Marshall, 47, of Lakeview, passing through en route to Humboldt County, Calif.; no bail.

James David Musalf, 53, of Port Orford, relodged for possession of methamphetamine; no bail.

Benjamin John Larson, 26, of Brookings, for possession of a weapon, menacing, harassment and third-degree attempted assault; bail set at $55,000.

Michael Lee Reid, 32, of Santa Maria, Calif., for conspiracy to commit unlawful possession of a weapon by an inmate, conspiracy to commit third-degree attempted assault and menacing; bail set at $60,000.

Janece Marie Payne, 59, of Harbor, warrant for reckless driving and two counts of recklessly endangering; booked and released.

Thursday, May 23

Thomas Aaron Remy, 44, of Gold Beach, warrant for hindering prosecution; bail set at $25,000.

Police Log May 25, 2013

Tuesday, May 21 

Assist public, 8:19 a.m.: Guns were taken in by Brookings Police for safekeeping until a family member can claim them. 

Suspicious conditions, 8:59 a.m.: Officers were unable to locate a suspicious person walking around a residence in the 800 block of Fawn Drive. 

Driving complaint, 12:31 p.m.: Officers were unable to locate a vehicle reported in a driving complaint in the 15600 block of Highway 101. 

Harassment, 8:02 p.m.: An ongoing harassment complaint between neighbors in an apartment complex resulted in an officer advising the citizen to document all unwanted contact and to report these incidents to the landlord and also advised how to pursue a stalking order through the courts if the contact continues. 

Threats, 9:17 p.m.: Threats between schoolmates in the 500 block of Chetco Avenue was handled civilly by the parents and their children. 

Field interview, 10:45 p.m.: Two people in a vehicle at Harris Beach were advised of park hours and to find a more appropriate location for their activities. 

Wednesday, May 22

Non-injury vehicle accident, 2:34 a.m.: Highway 101  near milepost 358. 

Suspicious conditions, 9:30 a.m.: A woman reported she was approached by a suspicious man in the 600 block opf Railroad Street who tried to sell her a computer because he took a wrong turn and is out of money. 

Loud noise, 10:23 a.m.:1200 block of Moore Street. 

Suspicious conditions, 10:58 a.m.: 600 block of Easy Street. 

Disabled vehicle, 11:56 a.m.: An officer responded to a disabled vehicle at North Bank Chetco River Road and Highway 101. The owner got it running and the roadway was cleared. 

Non-injury vehicle accident, 1:19 p.m.: A two-vehicle accident at Fourth and Easy streets resulted in  one vehicle being towed. 

Dispute/fight, 1:32 p.m.: Road rage was reported between two grown men at Rainbow Rock and Carpenterville Roads. 

Found property, 3:20 p.m.: Brookings. 

Criminal trespass, 4:30 p.m.: Railroad  and Wharf streets. 

Rescue operation, 5:47 p.m.: Lone Ranch Beach. 

Driving complaint, 11:10 p.m.: A call was made to Brookings Police Department to report a possible intoxicated driver after slurred and slowed speech was observed. Officers located the vehicle in the 800 blcok of Chetco Avenue and spoke with the driver who was not intoxicated, but had just received a new set of dentures that she was not used to yet. 

Thursday, May 23

Hazard, 10:40 a.m.: Fifield Street and Arnold Lane.

Fire, 1:29 p.m.: 700 block of Elk Drive.

Loud noise, 2:53 p.m.: 200 block of Del Norte Lane.

Theft, 3:08 p.m.: 400 block of Fir Street.

Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, 3:20 p.m.: North Bank Chetco River Road and Highway 101.

Theft, 3:53 p.m.: 300 block of Fifth Street.

Dispute/fight, 3:59 p.m.: Police received a report of a man who punched a woman on the arm and left in a taxi from the 98400 block of North Bank Chetco Road.

Criminal mischief, 4:33 p.m.: A caller reported he witnessed his tires being slashed. An officer located the suspect down North Bank Chetco River Road who matched the description. He was issued a citation for criminal mischief.

Hazard, 5:39 p.m.: Police received a report of three men darting into traffic on Highway 101 near Harris Beach State Park. An officer was able to locate three suspects in the rest area who were running around a parked vehicle. The men were warned for obstructing traffic and counseled on their actions.

Dispute/fight, 6:42 p.m.: Two 911 calls received — the first advised of a man who walked into a laundromat in the 97900 block of Shopping Center Avenue with a baseball bat and started to yell at another man. The second call stated there were about six to eight men involved. The men separated on their own. Both calls were given to Curry County Sheriff’s office; however, no deputies were on duty.

Disorderly conduct, 6:49 p.m.: 1200 block of Chetco Avenue.

Intoxicated subject, 9:46 p.m.: A disorderly intoxicated man was causing issues at his parents’ home in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue. He was located down the street on foot and counseled on his actions.

Animal complaint, 10:30 p.m.: Police investigated a report of a dog continuously barking for approximately an hour and a half. An officer was able to locate the small dog in the 800 block of Fawn Drive and after several tries, was able to wake up the owners and counsel them. They brought the dog inside for the night.

Intoxicated subject, 11:53 p.m.: Employees of a business in the 1100 block of Chetco Avenue requested an officer make contact with an intoxicated person.
