Jose Joel Olvera, 32, Smith River, Calif., on Nov. 3 had charges of possession of methamphetamine and delivering meth dismissed.

Timothy Jay Burris, 22, Gold Beach, on Nov. 3 was convicted of two counts of first-degree criminal mischief and one of second-degree criminal mischief. Sentencing was set for Nov. 9.

Matthew Scott Vanvliet, 20, Brookings, on Nov. 3 was convicted of attempting to assault a public safety officer and contempt of court. He was given a 24-month deferred sentence on the attempted assault and ordered to pay $568. For the contempt, he was ordered to pay $500.

Nathaniel Patrick Shuman, 28, Gold Beach, was convicted Nov. 3 of arson. Sentencing was set for Nov. 24.

Drake Alexander Bettinger, 35, Brookings, was convicted Nov. 4 of attempting to elude a police vehicle, recklessly endangering another, first-degree theft by receiving, possession of methamphetamine, and supplying contraband in jail. Sentencing was set for Nov. 10.

David Lieary Myers, 50, Brookings, was convicted Sept. 4 of recklessly endangering a highway worker. He was ordered to pay $1,000.

Kenneth Alan Witherby, 26, Brookings, was convicted Sept. 4 of criminal trespass. He was ordered to perform 25 hours of community service and to pay $250.

John Arthur Brown, 57, was convicted Sept. 4 of driving under the influence of intoxicants and failure to carry and display a driver license. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and to pay $2,035 for the DUII and 10 days, to be served consecutively and to pay $535 on the failure to display.

Steven Mark Sirchuk, 28, Brookings, was sentenced Sept. 5 on his Oct. 26 convictions for recklessly endangering another, interference with a police officer and disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, 24 months’ probation and to pay $1,000 for the recklessly endangering, 30 days jail, suspended, 24 months’ probation and to pay $850 for the interference and 24 months’ probation and to pay $67 for the disorderly conduct.

Katherine Rachel Rheurk, 24, Brookings, was found not guilty Nov. 5 of harassment.

Michael Wayne Bate, 42, Brookings, failed to appear Nov. 5 for arraignment on a show cause order. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Joshua David Wells, 26, Gold Beach, was convicted Nov. 6 of driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was sentenced to 80 hours of community service, 24 months’ probation and to pay $1,675.

Allison J. Birdwell, 38, Brookings, was convicted Sept. 6 of driving under the influence of intoxicants and probation violation. For the DUII, she was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 36 months’ probation and to pay $2,725 and for the PV, 60 days to be served consecutively.

Mario Robert Destefano, 42, Brookings, was sentenced Sept. 6 on his earlier convictions for assault and resisting arrest. For the assault, he was sentenced to 10 days in jail, 24 months’ probation and to pay $787 plus $2,495 restitution. For resisting, he was sentenced to 10 days, to be served concurrently, 24 months’ probation and to pay $1,000.

Ben George Lesina, 22, Crescent City, Calif., was convicted Sept. 6 of false information to police and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. He was also sentenced for driving under the influence of intoxicants after his diversion was revoked. For the false information, he was sentenced to four days in jail, 24 months’ probation and to pay $720. For possession, he was ordered to pay $1,000. For the DUII, he was sentenced to 48 hours in jail, to be served consecutively, 24 months’ probation and to pay $1,600.

Dennis Craig Paxson, 19, Smith River, Calif., failed to appear Nov. 6 on a driving under the influence of intoxicants charge. A warrant was issued for his arrest. He was also convicted by default of being a minor in possession of alcohol and was ordered to pay $395.

Juan Angel Ramos-Perez, 41, Smith River, Calif., was convicted Nov. 6 of giving false information to a police officer. He was sentenced to four days in jail, 12 months’ probation and to pay $542.
