8:30 p.m.: A crew member on the fishing vessel Sea Dawn contacted U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River on VHF Channel 16 stating that a crewman had broken his arm while working fishing gear. The station launched a 47-foot motor life boat to conduct a medical evacuation at sea and transferred the injured crewman to a waiting ambulance for transport to the hospital.
Sunday, May 23
5:52 p.m.: The U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River received a phone call about a kayaker in distress off Mill Beach. The station launched a 25-foot rescue boat to assist the kayaker, who had lost his paddle after being hit by a wave. The Coast Guard brought the kayaker, his dog and kayak back to the Port of Brookings Harbor.
