Thursday, Jan. 28 9:45 a.m.: U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River received a call from a 21-foot pleasure craft that had experienced engine failure in the vicinity of Goat Island. A 47-foot motor lifeboat responded and towed the boat to the Port of Brookings-Harbor. Sunday, Jan. 31 3:30 p.m.: U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River received a call from a good Samaritan who observed a derelict canoe in the vicinity of McVay Rock State Park. The derelict canoe was checked out by station personnel and confirmed that no one was in distress. Tuesday, Feb. 2 4:15 p.m.: The crew of the fishing vessel Anita Lynn contacted U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River and reported that they had lost propulsion due to a clogged fuel filter. They were approximately two nautical miles west of Chetco Point. A 47-foot motor lifeboat responded and placed the vessel in stern tow and safely towed it back to the port of Brookings-Harbor. A second motor lifeboat was dispatched as a back-up safety boat while the fishing vessel was towed across the bar. |
